A report from Tufts University indicates that the potential health attributes associated with eating yogurt stretch beyond protein and calcium. According to an article by Simin Nikbin Meydani, Ph.D. in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Am. J. Clin. Nutr. 2000; 71:861-72), yogurt may help make the immune system more resilient. Given the right circumstances, eating yogurt may help protect the intestinal tract. As a result, yogurt has great potential as a protective, anti-infection agent. Preliminary research indicates that increased yogurt consumption might help increase one's resistance to immune-related diseases such as cancer and infection, particularly gastrointestinal infection. This is believed to be in part due to the live and active cultures (LAC) found in yogurt.
That paragraph from the aboutyogurt.com website, you would think, in and of itself would be convincing enough to entice one to incorporate eating yogurt into their daily if not weekly food consumption. Not so much for me. I want to like yogurt, really I do. And some of the flavors are even somewhat bearable….but not enough.
During our weekend excursion to procure some much needed groceries for our home, we saw that yogurt was on sale. (I figured this was to entice those who are on a first of the year health kick to buy some.) So, we bought some. Russell chose his and I chose mine. I really thought I picked some that I would like, for certain. Unfortunately my taste buds refuse to allow me to like yogurt. I ate one at breakfast the other morning and I thought it was just that one flavor that repulsed me. So today for an afternoon snack, I took one to work. Boston Crème Pie was the supposed flavor. Blech! They all taste the same. Initially it starts out all tasty and yummy and then about half way through the cup, I just feel sick from eating it.
I think it has to be the aspartimine in the yogurt that makes it impossible for the yogurt and I to be true friends. I mean really, is it just me? I thought for sure this would be at least one way to get milk into my body, since I probably severely lack it elsewhere in my diet…but that seems too ominous a task for my taste buds and I. Russell was right, once again, as he said in the grocery store…”I think I’m the only one who eats it.”

I love yogurt! I do not like the aspartame taste. ( I had to look up how to spell that...) I don't eat it because I wonder about how good it is for you and what kinds are actually good for you. I'm sure some are good and others (Trix) are not.
